Sometimes it’s difficult to put your finger on what exactly makes a wedding unique. It could be the rustic theme (or ‘slap-dash’ as Michelle put it), or the tractors that took you and your guests to the church, or the fact you did the whole thing on your farm. Or it could be the half a dead cow on a spit roast, the hundreds of decorations you made yourself, or just the amount of sheer effort and hard work in the weeks and months running up to the big day.
Or it could just be the sheer number of people turning out to celebrate your marriage with you. Bringing your small North Yorkshire village to a standstill as everyone watches the bride arriving on the back of a tractor, or the tradition of tying up the church gate and not letting out the bride and groom until they’ve thrown money at you (never seen this one before!). Or it could be the crazy dancing, chatting around the massive fire-pit, watching the sunset from the benches, or just playing tig which made it special.
Yes, the views were breath taking. We were a bit spoilt for choice when it came to locations – the views were immense, and the lone tree was featured in ‘Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell’ (of TV fame). We were blessed with the weather (this was the week where it hailed midweek) and we got a sunset to die for. But Michelle and Rob’s wedding was all about the people – so many of their friends and family joining them to celebrate.
And celebrate they did.
